Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
On behalf of the five organizing associations, I am delighted to welcome you to the 24th International Conference on Renewable Mobility “Fuels of the Future 2027” on 18 and 19 January 2027 at the CityCube Berlin. Under the motto “Shaping the tranistion – Full Steam Ahead for Renewables”, you can once again look forward to a highly relevant international program featuring experts from politics, industry, academia, and associations.
Over the past 23 years, the International Conference has established itself as the leading event for the European biofuels sector and as a key forum for discussing the development of renewable mobility. In 2027, around 700 participants from more than 30 countries are expected to attend. The conference will focus on political and regulatory frameworks, technological developments, innovations, and national and international market opportunities. As in previous years, the event will be held bilingually in German and English.

Now is the time to actively and consistently shape the transformation of the transport sector. To achieve this, we need all available renewable options. Sustainable biofuels, renewable fuels of non-biological origin, renewable hydrogen, and electromobility are not competing solutions but complementary building blocks of a successful and technology-neutral mobility transition. What matters is ensuring that sustainable solutions reach the market and that their climate protection potential can be fully utilized.
Renewable fuels are far more than a climate protection instrument. They are a strategic pillar of the security of supply and resilience of our transport system. Recent years have demonstrated how vulnerable fossil fuel imports and global supply chains can be. A broader range of energy carriers and supply sources reduces dependencies, strengthens energy sovereignty, and enhances overall system resilience. Sustainably produced renewable fuels can also strengthen regional and European value creation.
At the same time, climate action in the transport sector must accelerate significantly. One of the most effective levers is increasing the actual share of renewable fuels in the market. Higher blending rates can deliver immediate additional greenhouse gas reductions while reaching a large existing vehicle fleet. E20 gasoline, higher biodiesel blends such as B20 or B30, and, where technically and legally feasible, B100 are practical options that can be implemented today.
Political and regulatory frameworks must enable this transition. With the further development of the greenhouse gas reduction quota and its increase to 17.5 percent from 2027 onwards, an important step has been taken to support market growth. The next challenge is to translate this into a genuine increase in demand for renewable fuels. Achieving this requires reliable, long-term, technology-neutral policies that provide sufficient room for all sustainable fuel options.
Climate protection and security of supply are two sides of the same coin. Strengthening renewable fuels reduces fossil fuel consumption, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and simultaneously improves the resilience of our energy supply. Especially in sectors where a complete shift to alternative propulsion technologies is not feasible in the short term, we need a broad portfolio of renewable fuel solutions.
Therefore, “Full Steam Ahead for Renewables” means full speed ahead for solutions, innovation, and investment. Sustainable biofuels such as biodiesel, bioethanol, and biomethane are already making an important contribution to climate protection today. Together with other renewable fuels, they can further advance the defossilization of transport, on the road in passenger, heavy-duty, and freight transport, as well as in aviation and shipping, in agriculture and forestry, and in municipal transport services.
